Job Description: 

  • Perform specialized clerical procedures within the department. Answers and screens all in coming phone calls and direct to the appropriate department, relays messages to field staff as needed.

  • Obtains authorization and enters admission intakes for Medicare, Managed Care and Commercial Insurance patients into Horizon.

  • Communicate with clinical staff regarding applicable patient deductibles, coinsurance, copays etc prior to admissions.

  • Tracks expiring authorizations and collaborates with clinical staff to obtain additional auth when needed.Creates and maintains clinical records for Home Health patients including scanning documents and filing.

  • Analyzes charts for deficiencies and follow up with clinical staff to obtain required documents.

  • Responsible for receiving physician orders, logging them into the tracking system, and sending to physicians for signature.Faxes documents to physicians and other providers for field staff as requested.

  • Calls laboratory to request patient lab reports for field staff as requested.

  • Works on the outstanding document, billhold, FTF, and 485 reports on a daily basis to assure all items are being followed up on and obtained back signed and filed in a timely manner.

  • Maintain an adequate supply of admission, discharge, transfer, resume and recertification packets for clinical staff use. Maintains office equipment and orders office supplies.

  • Assists with maintaining personnel files as requested.

  • Orders medical supplies and rotates inventory.

  • Performs payroll duties as assigned by Business Office Manager. Serves as backup for other clerical staff members as requested.


Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and to demonstrate that s/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Education and Experience Required
  • High school graduate or equivalent

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required
  • Valid Driver's License

  • Computer keyboard and word processing skills.

  • College courses or equivalent work experience preferably in medical records, home health or related healthcare environment.
  • One (1) year of general office experience.
