POSITION SUMMARY: Provides quality nursing care via nursing process, patient and family education, and documentation on an as needed basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Within the philosophy, objectives and policies of Capital Caring, carries out the following essential functions:
  • Provides quality nursing care to patients with terminal illness by initiating and maintaining the nursing process.
  • Provides patient and family education to maintain quality care, to decrease patient and family anxiety, to facilitate the patient living until death and to assure both the patient and the family have the skills to care for the patient.
  • Documents in appropriate chart and forms in an accurate and timely manner to provide a written record of assessments, plan of care and to assure the availability of information to team members.
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement a patient directed individualized plan of care and to assure the availability of information to team members.
  • Provides direction and supervision to LPNs, CNAs, Unit Secretaries and Volunteers to maintain quality care and to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Keeps knowledge base and skill levels current to assure quality patient care and professional growth.
  • Participates in the Compliance and Performance Improvement program to maintain or improve the quality of patient care.
  • Trains, assists, and evaluates volunteers in department as appropriate to maintain the effective functioning of the IPC.


Qualifications

LICENSURE: Current RN licensure in the jurisdiction of practice.

EDUCATION: Diploma or Associate degree in nursing from an NLN accredited school required; BSN preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of staff nurse experience. Acute Care, hospice/oncology, or skilled nursing facility experience strongly preferred.
